  • User guide

First time use

When you first turn on your new device, you might see a setup wizard to help get you started. Take a look at the steps below to walk through the setup process.

  • You can pair one Apple Watch to your iPhone at a time.
  • To use your Apple Watch series 3 or newer, you'll need to pair it with an iPhone 6 or later running the latest version of iOS.
  • To use your Apple Watch series 1 or 2, you'll need to pair it with an iPhone 5s or later running the latest version of iOS.
  • Make sure you iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network and Bluetooth is turned on.

To turn on Bluetooth and pair with a headset or other device, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Make sure your iPhone and Watch are next to each other, then tap Start pairing on the iPhone.
  3. Hold the Watch in front of the iPhone camera, centered in the square, until you see the message Your Apple Watch is Paired.
  4. On your iPhone, tap Set Up as New Apple Watch. If you've set up once before, you can tap Restore from Backup on your iPhone and follow onscreen steps.
  5. Read terms and conditions and tap Agree to continue.
  6. Sign in with the same Apple ID you use on your iPhone.
  7. Review the Workout Route Tracking and Shared Settings. If you change the settings of these services, those changes will apply to both of your devices.
  8. On your iPhone, choose whether to make a passcode for your Apple Watch. You'll need a Passcode for features like Apple Pay.
  9. If you tap Create a Passcode or Add a Long Passcode on your iPhone, you'll be asked to make a personal code using your Apple Watch and decide whether it will unlock with your iPhone.
  10. Tap Continue to setup Apple Pay, or tap Set Up Later in the Apple Watch App.
  11. Review the Emergency SOS information, then tap Continue.
  12. If your device has an eSIM, tap to Set Up Cellular or Skip This Step. See On-device Activation (ODA) below for additional information.
  13. Tap Install All to sync iPhone apps that work with Apple Watch.
    • Only apps that are compatible with Apple Watch will sync.
    • Tap Choose Later to sync only basic information like Mail, Contacts, and Messages.
  14. Your iPhone and Apple Watch will begin to sync.
    • The length of this process varies depending on the amount of data you're syncing.
    • Keep your devices close together until you hear a chime and feel a gentle tapping sensation from your Apple Watch.

On-device Activation (ODA)

  • After the first-time use process or when changing a SIM on the Apple Watch with cellular, you'll be prompted to go through on-device activation (ODA).
  • To manually start this process, on the iPhone open the Watch app and tap Cellular > Add a New Plan.

Change from one Watch with an eSIM to another

  1. Make sure you contact T-Mobile and provide your new Watch EID. If not, the Watch will try to add a new line on to your account.
  2. On the Activation screen, tap Continue. DIGITS will recognize that there is already an existing data paired with the DIGITS line.
  3. Select the number assigned to the previous device that you want to activate on the new Apple Watch, then tap Continue.

Purchased new from T-Mobile with AAL or setting up with a different iPhone

If your Watch was purchased through T-Mobile with AAL or you're setting it up with a different iPhone, it should already be activated with your T-Mobile service. Follow the steps below to complete activation:

  1. On the Activation screen, tap Continue to finish setting up DIGITS on the Apple Watch.
  2. Wait while the Apple Watch finishes DIGITS setup.
  3. Tap Continue to finish setting up your Watch.

Purchased anywhere other than T-Mobile and need to activate a line

If you purchased your device from somewhere other than T-Mobile, you'll be prompted to add a line for your Apple Watch.

  1. Make sure the device was purchased in the U.S. International models won't work in the U.S.
  2. If the device was originally used with another carrier, you must complete a master reset to release the EID.
  3. At the welcome screen, enter the last 4 digits of the primary account holder's SSN, then tap Continue.
  4. Select your data with paired DIGITS plan, then tap Continue.
  5. Review and agree to the Service Agreement, then tap Continue.
  6. Tap Continue to finish setting up your Watch.
